Gnosticism

I was pretty confused when reading gnosticism and having to compare it to The Matrix and the Allegory of the cave. From my understanding all three seem to share that we are all trapped in a material world, a world where we are taught to believe is reality but is actualy not. Just like people in The Matrix and the Allegory the cave and maybe even in present time we are prisoners in this material world. Based on the readings and some logic to escape this prison or material world, you would need to explore, educate yourself, obtain gnosis(knowledge),or like The Matrix a certain person to guide them like "The One". There are also cases like in The Matrix and also mentioned in Allegory the Cave about some people that dont want to know the truth about the world and want to live not knowing.
